FLOWER SHOW RULES


1. All classes are open to all District Nine members.
2. Entries are to be in place by 9:30 a.m., ready for judging at 10:00 a.m.
3. Entries must remain in place until the close of the meeting.
4. Design Division:

Plant material for design classes 1-6 may be from any source.

Artificial plant material is prohibited.

Only one entry per class per exhibitor.
5. Horticultural Division:

Classes 7-13, must have been grown by the exhibitor

Class 7-8 are allowed two entries per exhibitor, must be different cultivars

Class 9 – 10 must have been in the possession of the exhibitor for three months

Class 13 is allowed one entry per exhibitor
6. Wild Collected plants of endangered species are strictly forbidden. It is the responsibility of the
exhibitor to make sure none of these plants are on exhibit.
7. A Class may be subdivided at the discretion of the Flower Show Committee.
8. The Show Committee will take all reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of the exhibits and
containers, but District 9 and the Host Society cannot be held responsible for loss, theft or breakage.
9. Judging will be in accordance with The Ontario Judging and Exhibiting Standards for Horticulture
and Floral Design 2003.
10. Photography Division:

Class 14 - entries must be COLOUR PRINTS, matted size 5 inches X 7 inches (outside
measurement). THE MATTING IS PLACED ON TOP OF THE PHOTO. A label with the
Name, Address and Society of the exhibitor is to be attached on the top right corner on
the back of the entry (this will assure the judge the way you wish the entry to be viewed).
The decision of the judges is final.

CLASS 1
“Fenwick – Historic Flagpole” A Line Design.

CLASS 2
“North Pelham – Spring Blossoms” A small design from 51/2 inches by 10
inches(13.9 cm by 25.4 cm.) and which must not exceed 10" in any direction
(height, width, depth, diagonal) including container or base.

CLASS 3
“Ridgeville – Chocolates and Décor” A table arrangement suitable for a dining

room table. To be viewed from all sides. May use accessories.

CLASS 4
“Fonthill – Zesty” A Mass Design in a Culinary Container

CLASS 5
“Effingham – Green Hills and Quiet Ponds” A water viewing design.

CLASS 6
“Pelham – Looking to the Future” A modern design

Horticulture Division

*Classes 7, 8, 11 and 12, containers supplied by entrant
CLASS 7 Tulip – maximum of 3 blooms, any cultivar, may be cut from forced tulips.
CLASS 8 Narcissus - one stem, may be cut from forced bulb.
CLASS 9 House Plant grown primarily for foliage - pot size not to exceed 8 inches in any


direction.
CLASS 10 House Plant grown primarily for flowers - pot size not to exceed 8 inches in any

direction.

CLASS 11
Bulb in Water - one bloom – one forced bulb in clear vase.

CLASS 12
Spring Flowering Branch - one branch not to exceed 24 inches in length.

CLASS 13
Home Grown - 6 cell pack or 4 inch pot of seedlings grown from seeds or cuttings,

named and showing date planted.

Photography Division

Class 14
“First Up” – The first flower(s) up in the spring. Must be taken in Ontario during
the past year. Two entries are allowed per entrant and must have been photographed
by the entrant. See Rule 10 for presentation details.

From Grimsby take QEW Niagara to Regional Rd. 24 Victoria Avenue
2.
Exit here and proceed south on Regional Rd. 24. Remain on this road until Highway 20 (Pioneer Gas
Station on left) about 8 miles
3.
Turn left on Highway 20 for about 4.9 miles
4.
Turn right on Church Hill
From St. Catharines area take 406 south to Highway 20

1.
Turn right on Highway 20 to Fonthill
2.
In Fonthill, turn left onto Pelham Road (main intersection)
3.
On Pelham Road, turn right at the first street, Church Street
4.
Proceed up the hill to Fonthill United Church on the right
Church has a large parking lot at the side.
