We are most fortunate to have Jack Kent and Paul Bolland as our speakers for September. Jack and Paul are co owners of the “Potting Shed” a garden centre just outside Dunnville. They specialize in hostas and day lilies but have other plants as well. Paul, who has trained as an architect, designs gardens and water features. We will hear all about the “Extreme Garden Makeover” that happened when they purchased the property where the garden centre is now. Jack is also bringing along some bargain Day lilies for sale. It promises to be a great evening. Why not invite a friend or two.

JUNE ROSE SHOW

A beautiful display of roses

Millie’s beautiful Rose “Typhoon”

 Maria’s prize winning arrangement

The June Rose Show was lovely. As usual we were worried that there would be no roses for the show because of the early spring…. but as usual we managed to have a lovely display.
The show judge was Diane Kiers. Thanks so much all who volunteered in any way to make the show a success.

VOLUNTEER AWARDS

Betty Beck and Marg Lamb at the Saturday evening banquet

We all had a super time at the OHA convention held this summer August 17-19th at Niagara College. It was a lot of work and at least four years in the making but it was well worth it.
Apparently it had one of the largest if not the largest attendance of any OHA conventions. There were 443 full registrants and over 20 one day registrants. There were 130 volunteers. District 9 won an award for the greatest increase in membership. Thanks to District 9 Director Sue Lusted and all the other folks on the Planning Committee for their great dedication to this cause. Next year’s convention is in Thunder Bay.
Congratulations go out to THS member Carla Kuchard for her wins in the Creative writing sections.
Thanks to all who donated items for the Penny Sale and the Silent Auction.
The sales were a big success!!!

Go to the OHA website- gardenontario.org for more information on the conventions this year’s and next. You will also be able to read the Fall edition of the Trillium.
